Size: 51,824 acres.
Established: Emergency Appropriation Act of June 19, 1934, allocated initial construction funds; established as parkway under National Park Service by act of May 18, 1938. Ackia Battleground (now called Chickasaw Village) and Meriwether Lewis Park were added to the Natchez Trace Parkway by Act of August 10, 1961.
Location:A 444-mile route between Nashville, Tennessee, and Natchez, Mississippi. The southern terminus of the Parkway is accessed off of Liberty Road inNatchez, which is thehistorical "beginning" of the Old Trace at milepost zero.
Facilities:Campgrounds (é), picnic area, rest rooms (é), groceries, boat ramp, visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, swimming, boating, fishing, auto touring, ranger-guided talks.
Special Features:This historic route generally follows the old Indian trace or trail between Nashville, Tennessee, and Natchez, Mississippi that connected southern portions of the Mississippi River, through Alabama, to salt licks in today's central Tennessee.
