Light shelf

Light shelf

A horizontal device usually positioned above eye level to reflect daylight to penetrate further into a building by reflecting some of the light onto the ceiling and to shield direct sunlight from the area immediately adjacent to the window. The light shelf may project into the room, beyond the exterior wall plane, or both. Exterior light shelves may also function as sunshades. The upper surface of the shelf may be specular or nonspecular but should be highly reflective, that is, having 80 percent or greater reflectance.
