Mumin Khamraev
Khamraev, Mumin
Born 1908 in the village of Charyn, in what is now Uighur Raion, Alma-Ata Oblast; died 1955 in the Sinkiang-Uighur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Uighur writer.
Khamraev graduated from a pedagogical technicum, taught school, and worked for the newspaper Shark khakikati (Pravda of the East). In the late 1930’s he went to work in East Turkestan (now the Sinkiang-Uighur Autonomous Region of the PRC). Khamraev was one of the first Uighur prose writers. His novella In Difficult Days (1934) deals with the life of the Uighurs in the early 20th century. The novel Among the Waves (1934) depicts the struggle for development in a kolkhoz village. Khamraev made a great contribution to the development of the Uighur literary language.
