Lunik Point
a projection of the icy jagged coast on the western side of Ob’ Bay (Oates Coast, Eastern Antarctica) at 70°31’ S lat. and 163°07’ E long. Discovered and investigated by a Soviet antarctic expedition in 1958, the projection was named in honor of the Soviet unmanned interplanetary probe Luna 2, which on Sept. 14, 1959, first reached the moon and placed on it pennants with the State Emblem of the Soviet Union.
