Unità, L’

 

an Italian daily newspaper; central organ of the Communist Party. Founded by A. Gramsci, L’Unità has been published since Feb. 12, 1924. The circulation is usually about 300,000 but reaches 1 million on holidays and during major political events. The newspaper publishes editions for Rome and Milan, as well as supplementary sections for different provinces and major cities. Activists of the Communist Party who belong’to the association Friends of L’Unità help promote circulation.

L’Unità holds annual festivals, first in villages and cities and next on the provincial level, eventually ending with a national festival. In 1978 more than 1.5 million people, including delegations from 65 countries, took part in such a festival in Genoa.
