Labor Commune of the Volga Germans

an autonomous oblast that was established on Oct. 19, 1918, in the Lower Volga Region, which had been settled during the 18th century by German colonists. On Dec. 19,1924, the oblast was made an autonomous republic (seeVOLGA GERMAN AUTONOMOUS SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC).
