Ligutti, Luigi (Gino)

(1895– ) religious leader; born in Udine, Italy. Emigrating to the U.S.A. as a child and ordained in 1919, he was an Iowa pastor for many years (1920–41). As executive director of the National Catholic Rural Life Conference (1939–60), he promoted greater awareness of Third World needs; he also served as Vatican ambassador to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (1948–71).
