Polle syndrome Psychiatry, child abuse A form of child abuse in which children, often < age 5-6, are victims of factitious illnesses, either fabricated by–eg, reports of fever and seizure disorders, or induced by parents or guardians–eg, induction of apnea, bleeding, diarrhea, fever, seizures, vomiting, administration of laxatives, withholding antibiotics, friction-induced 'rashes'; MBPS may satisfy parents' aberrant psychologic needs.
