Labradoritite

a magmatic rock of the gabbro family, consisting chiefly of plagioclase—labradorite—with small admixtures (not more than 5–7 percent) of pyroxenes and ore minerals. It is often large-grained and dark gray or black in color. Labradoritites, in which the labradorite crystals on the fracture or on a polished surface sparkle and show a play of bright blue-green tones, are very pretty and are used for facing buildings, monuments, and the like. There are deposits of labradoritite in Canada, the United States, and elsewhere. In the USSR there are deposits in the Ukraine (Zhitomir Oblast near the villages of Novyi Bobrik, Kamennaia Pech’, Turchinka, and Golovino).
