Merefa

a city (since 1938) in Kharkov Raion, Kharkov Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, on the Mozha River (a tributary of the Severskii Donets).

Population, 30,400 (1973). Merefa is a railroad junction with lines to Kharkov, Lozovaia, and Krasnograd. The city has a glass works, plants producing reinforced-concrete structures and building materials, a distillery, and a bakery. The Ukrainian Vegetable and Melon Growing Scientific Research Institute and an experimental silk cultivating station are located there.
