Luristan

a historical region in western Iran and a general governorship in present-day Iran. Its capital is Khorramabad. In ancient times Luristan was settled by Kassite tribes and formed part of the state of Elam. Tribes of the southern Iranian branch settled Luristan in the tenth and ninth centuries B.C. Little Luristan, or Luristan proper, is inhabited by Lur tribes and Great Luristan by the Bakhtiari, Kuhgiluiyeh, and Mamaseni.
