Moreno, Lenín

(Lenín Boltaire Moreno Garcés), 1953–, Ecuadorian political leader, president of Ecuador (2017–). Moreno was a manager in the private sector for several years before holding several administrative posts with the government and working with the country's tourism industry. He was left partially paralyzed in 1998 when he was shot after being robbed. 's first two terms (2007–13) and promoted care for the disabled; he then served (2013–16) as UN special envoy on disability and accessibility. In 2017 he was elected president of Ecuador in a closely contested election. His political independence and more moderate stance contributed to a break with Correa, who left (2018) the AP.
