Kopshtein, Aron Iosifovich

Born Mar. 5 (18), 1915, in Ochakov; died Mar. 4, 1940, in Suoiarvi. Soviet Ukrainian poet. Wrote also in Russian.

Kopshtein entered the Gorky Literary Institute in 1939. He volunteered for the front during the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939–40 and was killed in action. His poetry reflects the labor, ideas, and aspirations of Soviet youth. Kopshtein’s books of poetry were published in Ukrainian: We Want, We Strive, We Can (1933), The Conversation (1934), Shchors Street (1936), The Source (1937), The Sunny Country (1938), and The Blue Sea (1941, posthumously).
