Nur Baian

Baian, Nur Galimovich

 

(also Nur Baian). Born May 15, 1905, in the village of Aniak, now in Aktanysh Raion, Tatar ASSR; died Apr. 23, 1945, in Austria. Soviet Tatar poet.

Baian was born into a peasant family, and he began publishing in 1925. Baian’s poems, such as “Our Banners” (1937) and “Lenin Among the People” (1941), are filled with a lofty patriotism. His songs written at the front during the Great Patriotic War are pervaded with faith in the victory of the Soviet people; examples are “Spring” (1942) and “Lenin’s Signpost Marks Our Path” (1943). Baian was killed in the fighting for the liberation of Austria.
