Li K’o-Jan
Born in 1907 in Hsüchou. Chinese painter, master of kuo-hua. Pupil of Chi Pai-shih and Huang Pin-hung.
Li K’o-jan, who studied at the Art Institute in Hangchou, became a professor at the Central Academy of Arts in Peking in 1949. His lyrical landscapes (Spring Rain in Southern China, 1950’s) and genre compositions (Boy on a Water Buffalo, 1953) are particularly sensitive to the force of life and are marked by dynamic construction and the tactility of forms.
