In northeastern PA, northeast of Wilkes-Barre. Organized Aug 13, 1878 from Luzerne County, the last PA county to be created. Name Origin: For the Lackawanna River, which runs through it. From a Delaware Indian word probably meaning 'the stream that forks.'
