Location:Central Mississippi, about 60 miles north of Jackson.
Activities:Hunting, fishing, hiking, wildlife observation, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge is located on the former site of a commercial catfish farm that included 55 ponds. It is noted for large numers of wintering waterfowl which have exceeded 100,000 ducks in recent years. Approximately 250 species of birds use the refuge, which is an important migration stopover.
Habitats: 7,381 acres of bottomland and upland hardwoods, cypress/tupelo brakes, croplands, and ponds.
Access: Year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Ducks, cattle egret, black-crowned night heron, bald eagles, golden eagles, blue jay, butterflies, deer, squirrel, rabbit, American alligator, and raccoon.
