Mermet Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area
Location:Southern Illinois, just north of the Ohio River, 0.5 miles southwest of Mermet on US 45.
Facilities:Picnic tables, shelter, pit toilets, trails, 4 boat launch ramps, rental boats, paddles, and life jackets.
Activities:Hunting, boating (10 HP limit), fishing, hiking.
Special Features:Area is an old cypress swamp that has been converted into a waterfowlhunting area, with 30 permanent waterfowl blinds and 2 flooded walk-inareas. The area was developed mainly for duck hunting, but severalthousand Canada, blue, and snow geese frequent the area each winter,and the lake is productive for largemouth bass, channel catfish, andmost panfish.
