Masai Steppe

a plateau in eastern Tanzania. The average elevation is 1,000 m, with some mountains reaching a height of 2,000 m. The plateau is composed of ancient crystalline rocks. The climate is subequatorial and, to a large extent, arid; the rainy season is in the summer. The few rivers are shallow and flow only along the periphery of the plateau. A savanna with scattered shrubs predominates in the reddish brown soil. There is nomadic livestock raising.
