Luxembourgers

Luxembourgers

the basic population of the state of Luxembourg (more than 300,000 persons; 1972 estimate).

Small groups of Luxembourgers (about 20,000 persons) live in France and Belgium. In everyday life they speak their own language (letzeburgesch); the official languages are French and German. The religious believers are primarily Catholics; a small number are Protestants. In their origins the Luxembourgers are close to Germans, but historically they have become separated from them. The material, and to a considerable degree, the spiritual culture of the Luxembourgers differs little from the culture of the populations of the neighboring regions of France and Belgium.
