[¦lak·tō′nī‚tril] (organic chemistry) CH3CHOHCN A straw-colored liquid boiling at 183°C; soluble in water, insoluble in carbon disulfide and petroleum ether; used as a solvent, and as a chemical intermediate in making esters of lactic acid. Also known as acetaldehyde cyanohydrin.
