luxury perfusion syndrome

A cerebrovascular state in which there is increased blood flow to the brain but decreased O2 uptake by cerebral tissue, resulting from acute lactic—metabolic—acidosis accompanied by cerebral oedema. Luxury perfusion is non-specific and may occur in strokes, trauma, tumours, alcoholism, sickle cell anaemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, and meningoencephalitis
