Limenitis
Limenitis a genus of butterflies of the family Nymphalidae. The top of the wings is black or brown with a white design; the lower side is rust-red. The hind wings have a serrated edge. These butterflies are distributed in the northern hemisphere, predominantly in the temperate and subtropical zones. They appear in the first half of summer. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of trees and shrubs. The best-known species are Limenitis populi, which develops on poplars and aspens, and L. camilla and L. rivularis, which live on honeysuckle.
