Lim Fjord
Lim Fjord
(Limfjorden), a system of straits in northern Denmark, connecting the North Sea with the Kattegat. It is about 180 km long and consists of lakelike enlargements (or open reaches of water) connected by narrow winding channels. The Lim Fjord separates Vendsyssel Island from the Jutland Peninsula. The predominant depths are 3–5 m. There are more than 90 islands, with Mors and Fur being the largest. The major port of Ålborg can be reached by large ships from the east, where the navigation channel is cleared regularly and has been deepened in places. The Lim Fjord is a fishing area (herring and eel), and oysters are harvested in the west.
