Muong
Muong
a people living in the foothills of the Annamese Cordillera in central and southern regions of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Population, approximately 500,000 (1970, estimate). In their origins and language, the Muong are closely related to the Vietnamese, from whom they differ in their material culture (bamboo huts on piles, stitched-together skirts worn by women). The religion of the Muong consists of ancestor worship and belief in various spirits. Their chief occupation is rice cultivation.
