miostagmin reaction

mi·o·stag·min re·ac·tion

a physiochemical immunity test, designed by Ascoli, consisting in determination of the surface tension of an immune serum to which its specific antigen has been added, before and after incubation at 37°C for 2 hours; in a positive reaction the surface tension, as measured by the stalagmometer, is lowered.

miostagmin reaction

An obsolete serological test in which the measured end-point was surface tension that lowered in a quantitative fashion as a function of the number of formed immune complexes—used in the testing of syphilis, malignancies and others.
