Lvov Museum of Ukrainian Art

a major collection of Ukrainian fine and applied art, including folk art. Founded in 1905, the museum contains collections of works from ancient times to the Soviet period, chiefly from the western regions of the Ukraine. The museum has a unique collection of icons from the 14th to the 18th century (including works by I. Kondzelevich and I. Rutkovich), medieval manuscripts, and early printed books. Art of the 19th and early 20th centuries is represented by the works of I. P. Kurilas, M. D. Sosenko, F. S. Krasitskii, I. I. Trush, and A. Kh. Novakovskii. The collection on Soviet art includes works by I. I. Bokshai, M. G. Deregus, V. I. Kasiian, E. L. Kul’chitskaia, L. I. Levitskii, and A. I. Manastyrskii. The museum also displays wood carving and embroidery of the 15th to the 17th century, kilim carpets of the 18th and 19th centuries, and decorated Easter eggs.
