limited registration

limited registration

A type of General Medical Council (GMC) (UK) registration which was abolished in October 2007. Limited registration allowed overseas qualified doctors, who held an acceptable qualification (i.e., from the World Health Organization's list of medical schools) to practise in supervised NHS training posts—preregistration house officer (PRHO), senior house officer (SHO) (FY1, FY2), specialist registrar (SpR/ST)—which were educationally approved. Limited registration was also granted for locum posts at these grades. The doctor needed to have achieved at least an SHO standard to pass the PLAB exam before receiving (full) GMC registration.
