Mason operation

Gastric bypass for morbid obesity, which was first reported in 1967 and superseded by other bariatric procedures (now of historic interest). The gastric bypass has evolved to its current form, using a Roux-en-Y limb of intestine, and is the most commonly performed operation for weight loss in the US, with an estimated 140,000 performed in 2005.
