mesatipelvis

A term for a pelvis with a transverse diameter equal to the true conjugate’s diameter. The obstetric conjugate is of greater clinical importance than the true conjugate, as it is the shortest distance through which the foetus must pass in the birth canal. The distances (anteroposterior and transverse) in a mesatipelvis are “equal” in value—i.e., a mesatipelvis is round, therefore, by extension, it is a gynaecoid pelvis by the Caldwell-Moloy classification.
Since the gynaecoid pelvis is the most common pelvic type, “normopelvis” and “normopelvic” might be regarded as appropriate equivalents of mesatipelvis and mesatipelvic, respectively.
