acetylcholine sweat test

acetylcholine sweat test

A test of the function of the sympathetic nervous system. A marked area of the skin is painted with iodine and then with an emulsion of starch in oil. A very small dose of acetylcholine solution is injected. If the local sympathetic system is intact a black dot will appear at each sweat pore. The test can be quantified by counting the dots in a given area.
