(mir'shan[h]), a premonitory symptom of mumps; if a strongly flavored substance is placed on the tongue, a painful reflex secretion of saliva occurs in the gland that is the seat of the incipient infection.

Mirchamp sign

An obsolete term that dignified the sharp pain in the parotid gland evoked by flavoured foods or drinks placed on the tongue, and was once regarded an early indicator of mumps.
