Massachusetts Rebellion of 1689-91

a revolt of the settlers in the English colony of Massachusetts in North America against class oppression in the colony. It erupted in Boston on Apr. 18, 1689, after receipt of news about the coup d’etat in England (the Glorious Revolution), and soon spread to the entire colony. The insurgents overthrew the governor and formed a provisional government, expanding the self-administration of the colony. However, with the new royal charter in 1691, the laws and legal proceedings of the colony were placed under the complete control of the mother country; all executive authority was transferred to the English governor.
