autocorrelator

autocorrelator

[‚ȯd·ō′kär·ə‚lād·ər] (electronics) A correlator in which the input signal is delayed and multiplied by the undelayed signal, the product of which is then smoothed in a low-pass filter to give an approximate computation of the autocorrelation function; used to detect a nonperiodic signal or a weak periodic signal hidden in noise.
