Lindblad, Bertil
Born Nov. 26, 1895, in Örebro; died June 25, 1965, in Stockholm. Swedish astronomer. Director of the Stockholm Observatory from 1927.
Lindblad’s principal studies were devoted to the dynamics of stellar systems and the study of their structure and to photometric observations of spiral galaxies. Lindblad also developed a convenient method of determining the luminosities of stars (absolute stellar magnitudes) from photographs of their spectra. Lindblad was president of the International Astronomical Union from 1948 to 1952.
