Muricidae are most numerous in tropical and subtropical seas; in the USSR there are several species in the Black, Far Eastern (the genus Rapana), and Northern seas. All Muricidae are predators, boring into the shells of other mollusks with an acid secretion (saliva) and eating their bodies.
