[ə′blēk mər′kād·ər prə′jek·shən] (mapping) A conformal cylindrical map projection in which points on the surface of a sphere or spheroid, such as the earth, are conceived as developed by Mercator principles on a cylinder tangent along an oblique great circle. Also known as oblique cylindrical orthomorphic projection.
