Murom-Riazan Land

Murom-Riazan’ Land

 

a feudal principality of ancient Rus’ that was formed out of part of the Chernigov Principality at the end of the 11th century. The first prince of the Murom-Riazan’ Land was Iaroslav Sviatoslavich (died 1129), who was the grandson of Iaroslav the Wise. Under Sviatoslav and Rostislav, the sons of Iaroslav Sviatoslavich, the Murom-Riazan’ land split up into the principalities of Murom and Riazan’, which were definitively separated after the death of Sviatoslav in Murom in 1145.
