Murphy, Robert D. (Daniel)

(1894–1978) diplomat, business executive; born in Milwaukee, Wis. His long diplomatic career began in 1920. He helped to negotiate with Vichy France (1940) and was ambassador to Belgium (1949–52) and Japan (1952). He was President Eisenhower's personal representative in Lebanon (1958). He later served as a chairman and director for Corning Glass International.
