Novotroitskoe Gorodishche

the remains of a Slavic settlement of the eighth and ninth centuries near the village of Novotroitskoe, in Lebedin Raion, Sumy Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. The site was fully excavated between 1952 and 1954 by I. I. Liapushkin. He found the remains of 50 semisubterranean dwellings with dependencies and workshops. Agricultural implements, weapons, ornaments, and grains of wheat, rye, barley, and millet were found. It was established that the settlement was destroyed by invading nomads, probably Pechenegs. The dwellings were burned, and part of the population killed; human remains were found in many of the dwellings.
