Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park
Location:Off US 27, 2 miles north of I-10 in Tallahassee.

Special Features:Park site is part of an area now known as the Southeastern CeremonialComplex, which was occupied by the Lake Jackson Indians during theperiod 1200-1500 AD. The Complex encompasses six earthen temple moundsand one possible burial mound. The largest mound is approximately 36feet high and measures 278 feet by 312 feet at the base. Artifacts ofpre-Columbian societies that have been found here include burial objects such as copperbreastplates, shell beaded necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and cloaks, along with the remains of important tribal members.
