Mastara

Mastara

a village in Tala Raion, Armenian SSR. It is the site of the Church of St. John (late sixth and early seventh centuries), a variation of the cruciform, domed church that was widespread in medieval Armenia. The church is centrally planned, with a broad dome (11.2 m in diameter) on pendentives and four apses that protrude outward. The spatial organization of the building is sculpturally expressive.
