Novozybkov

a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Novozybkov Raion, Briansk Oblast, RSFSR. Railroad station on the Unecha-Gomel’ line; branch line (120 km) from Novozybkov to Novgorod-Severskii. Population, 39,000 (1974). Novozybkov has plants that produce machine tools and electrothermal equipment. Light industries include a combine that processes meat and poultry, a creamery, and factories that produce clothing and knitted goods.

The city also has a pedagogical institute, an agricultural technicum, a museum of local lore, two people’s amateur theaters, and the Novozybkov Agricultural Experiment Station.
