[TA] fibers that originate from the periolivary nuclei bilaterally, exit the brianstem on the vestibular nerve, join the cochlear nerve in the inner ear, and terminate on outer hair cells. Synonym(s): tractus olivocochlearis [TA], bundle of Rasmussen

olivocochlear bundle

An axon tract that originates in the superior olivary nuclei of the hindbrain. The tract exits the brainstem and runs in the vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VIII), eventually synapsing on hair cells in the cochlea in the inner ear.
