Baer, Werner

(1931– ) economist; born in Offenbach, Germany. He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1945. A Harvard Ph.D., he taught at Vanderbilt University (1965–74) and the University of Illinois: Urbana (1974). A specialist in Latin American industrialization and economic growth, he wrote such works as Industrialization and Economic Development in Brazil (1965) and The Brazilian Economy (1979, later revised).
