Size: 151,300 acres.
Location:In the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Accessible by US 50 and 89 (12 miles south of I-80). Nearby cities/towns include South Lake Tahoe and Truckee, CA, and Carson City and Reno, NV.
Facilities:Visitor center, 9 Forest Service campgrounds, 10 other campgrounds, dispersed camping, picnic sites, trails (210 miles), beaches, boat ramps, historic sites.
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, water-skiing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, OHV riding, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Manages federal lands surrounding Lake Tahoe, including portions of Eldorado, Tahoe, and Toiyabe national forests (see separate entries). Lake Tahoe, which sits on the "bend" along the California-Nevada border, is 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, includes 71 miles of shoreline, and is the third deepest lake in North America. California and Nevada state parks are also located around the lake.
