Baffin-Greenland Rise
Baffin-Greenland Rise
an elevation of the sea bottom stretching along the Davis Strait between the underwater slopes of Greenland and Baffin Island. It is about 75 km in length and reaches a depth of 642 m. The rise prevents the circulation of water at lower depths between Baffin Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. As a result, the deeper levels of Baffin Bay are filled with cold water that has come down from above during the winter season.
