Lyotropy
Lyotropy
(in aqueous solutions, hydrotropy), the effect produced by solutes on the molecular properties (viscosity, surface tension, compressibility, solubility) of the solvent. The term “hydrotropy” is usually used in the narrow sense to mean an increase in the solubility of substances that are normally only slightly soluble in an aqueous medium, under the influence of other, readily soluble substances.
