Established: 1966.
Location:In southern Indiana, about 50 miles south of Indianapolis.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, hiking trails (é), auto tour route (9 miles), trails, historic features.
Activities:Boating, fishing, ice fishing, hiking, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:On most of the refuge's lakes, fishing is permitted year round. Good catches of largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish are not uncommon. Ice fishing is permitted when conditions are safe.
Habitats: 7,802 acres of farm lands, lakes, ponds, moist soil, grassland, forest.
Access: Open year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Canada geese, wood ducks, great blue herons, the rare copperbelly water snake, white-tailed deer, muskrat, beaver, and turkey.
