Ländler
Ländler
a peasant dance that originated in southern Germany and in Austria (there are local variations of the ländler). The dance is done to 3/4 and 3/8 time. In the early 19th century it spread to the urban areas; it is one of the dances from which the waltz originated. Its musical form appears in the works of Beethoven, Schubert, and Schumann.
